Zmory (1975, Poland)

Mikolaj wearing his nightgown The story of a boy, and later a young man, who became a political idealist. He is in Poland under Austrian occupation, and at first we see him in his family life. He is portrayed at this stage as being sensitive and thoughtful, and in early shots we see him wearing a patterned nightgown. However there is nothing transgender in this.

As he grows older, he attends a strict catholic boys' school, where his submissive nature at first gives him trouble, and we see him develop and become an idealist.

The film has also been released under the English title Nightmares.
