Why Girls Love Sailors (1927)

Stan Laurel does a spell in drag
Silent with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, before they had firmed up on their later personalities. Hardy is a rough sea captain and Laurel is an innocent crew member. A girl has been taken on board forcibly, and Laurel decides to rescue her. He does so, finding a hamper of theatrical clothing, by dressing as a woman and seducing, or at least deceiving, most of the crew members in turn.

The hamper is marked "The Jules Ellenge Theatre". This is an obvious reference to Julian Eltinge, who had taken variety theatre by storm with his female impersonation act.
