George Segal's character is a lawyer; he has promised his dying father that he will never put his Mother in a home, and he is true to his word, even though she is difficult, and more.
The film follows the chaotic events that this brings on, but the whole thing itself is too chaotic to make a good film, with many unconnected events taking centre stage for a moment and then disappearing.
Here a gang have caught a man dressed in a gorilla suit and they make him rape a passer-by. This shot is the most that we ever see of her, but it turns out that she is a transvestite; afterwards she sends him flowers at the police station (where he is under arrest) as a thank-you. Weird, or what?
