An unsubtle story of a tomboyish young girl, Milly (Pamela Segall), who thinks boys have more fun and wishes she was one.
But she has to go to a school formal dance, and her Mother insists on helping her to make up.
But a strange cosmic event takes place, and she acquires a mysterious potion.
She takes some of the potion and she duly turns into a boy. As this is a teenagers' film, the exploration of the new body is carried out tastefully.
She has to go to a new school as a boy.
And she meets a persistent girlfriend.
The film could have explored some interesting areas, for example in parental reactions and the sexual orientation question, both of which arise but are treated superficially. For a more serious study of adolescent gender problems you need to watch Ma vie en Rose. However, unlike Ma Vie this one has a happy, if rather obvious, ending.
The film was also released as:
Something Special, and
I Was a Teenage Boy.
I have seen it reported as "Milly Willy" but this is a mistake; it's Willy Milly.
Interestingly, in the credits, both characters are given, Milly and Willy, both with Pamela Segall's name. The video label I have implies that the film is quite raunchy, and this is outright misleading: in fact (to avoid adult classification) the film is quite prim.
