White Mischief (1987)

A transgendered tea dance
This murder mystery film is an unhappy attempt to set South Fork in wartime Kenya; the rich and powerful all live in sumptuous luxury (and of course they're all white).

I didn't get the feel of 1944, when the film is set, at all, but call me picky.

As part of the scene setting, we see a dance party at which several gels are wearing men's evening dress, and some of the chaps are wearing frocks. The object of introducing this into the film is obviously to signal decadence.
