La Vita è Bella (1998, Italy)

Roberto Benigni plays an Italian Jewish man.

Life is disrupted as World War 2 develops, and he and his family are sent to a Nazi concentration camp. He and his son are separated from his wife, but he adopts a crude female disguise to try to get his son back to her.

It's a poignant and surprising film; the English title is Life is Beautiful.
