An atmospheric film by Federico Fellini, following the activities of five young men -- the Vitelloni -- stuck in an Adriatic seaside resort over a winter weekend. As this was 1953, the more disreputable part of what they do isn't all that shocking, and Fellini tends to dwell on themes that don't capture the interest of a modern observer.
There is a carnival and a fancy dress ball, and one of the men, Alberto Sordi attends in drag. In the picture we see him afterwards, alone, feeling sorry for himself, and very drunk.
The title means "The loafers".
