Uncivil Warriors (1935)

The Three Stooges perform in another slapstick comedy short. The scene is the American civil war, and the Three Stooges are sent by the northern side into Confederate territory, on a spying mission. They dress as Southern officers, and they are received courteously by the real Southern officers, but they arouse suspicions that they may be spies.

It is announced that the wife of one of the impostors is in town, and Curley has to go and dress in drag to play the part.

At the very end there is an interesting sight gag worthy of Buster Keaton; running for their lives from the Southerners, the three hide in what looks like a massive fallen hollow tree trunk. As the Southerners take position for defending themselves they remove the camouflage from the tree trunk, which we now see is a large bore artillery gun ... which they fire.
