Ulysses (1967)

Dedalus at the circus
A film of James Joyce's classic novel, describing a fictional author's day wandering around Dublin. Some of the scenes scared the Irish film censors, although now it looks tame.

Filmed in black and white for added atmosphere, it is a series of disconnected episodes with a lot of fantasy sequences, and you have to work hard to appreciate it.

Dedalus, the hero, (played by Milo O'Shea) gets involved with a sado-masochistic madam, and in a cut to fantasy, he is dressed in a nightie and curlers, imitating a pig in a circus performance.
