The Thin Red Line (1964)

In drag for fun
A film about the horrors of war, in this case the conflict between an American unit and the Japanese at Guadalcanal. The film has been praised for a better portrayal of the realities than was usual at the time, and for bringing out the viewpoint of individuals swept along in the greater conflict.

Towards the end of the film, the unit puts on some light entertainment and this soldier volunteers to do a drag routine -- in fact nearer to drag than femininity. When the whole unit becomes engrossed in the fun, the Japanese take the opportunity to unleash a storm of machine gun bullets on them, and slaughter ensues.
