A film from Sri Lanka about a woman who lives as a man to avoid sex discrimination in getting work.
We never find out his name - in the credits he is just "the Woman" -- played by Anoma Janadari. In the early stages of the film, he gets injured in a minor accident with a friend's car. The friend takes him to a doctor, who discovers his secret.
He has a loving relationship with his wife -- and she later reveals that she has known the truth all along. But the doctor wants sex with him, and in parallel a gay male friend who doesn't know his secret, has fallen in love with him.
There are some similarities to Boys Don't Cry, but there is more to it in this film; the whole brooding atmosphere of prejudice and exploitation makes the film heavy and joyless.
Towards the end of the film, the local men are congregating outside his house and throwing stones at the windows; finally he strips naked and shows himself to them at the door, an act that defuses the situation.
The English language title of the film is Flying With One Wing, a strange title that is explained in a saying at the very end of the film: a little bird flies across the city using one wing; with the other it covers its genitalia.
As so often with films conveying a powerful message, watching it is not a fun experience.
