The Tales of Hoffman (1951)

A muse in the wings
A film based on Offenbach's opera, with Moira Shearer and other prima ballerinas, this is not for anyone except dedicated enthusiasts of the genre; even for them the plot seems to be purposeless and confusing, and the work is condemned by some as a failure.

Hoffman goes through several fantastical experiences in which he continually fails to reach his beloved; he is accompanied by his muse, Nicklaus, (left) played by Pamela Brown.
