A comedy film set in the late Qing Dynasty. Li Yugang plays the son of a prince in a royal family. He is a theatregoer and an amateur performer of Beijing Opera. In the film, he practises the "Dan" role (in which male actors represent female characters) in Beijing Opera.
The character appears in only a few scenes; here (pic) he is putting on make up and practising at home. Li Yugang is a rising star in China, regarded by some as the best "Male Dan" actor of the age. His skills of managing his voice at high pitch and his elegant feminine body movements that imitating women are very impressive.
