Salome's Last Dance (1988)

The phoney Salome completes the dance
This film is an effort to portray Oscar Wilde's masterpiece Salome in dramatised form; it starts with Wilde and his boyfriend Lord Alfred Taylor entering a brothel, in fact a scene of debauchery. A portrayal of the story of Salome is staged, with Stratford Johns as King Herod and Glenda Jackson as his queen. Imogen Millais-Scott plays Salome, and in the climax of the film she dances the Dance of the Veils. Herod clearly enjoys this immensely, but as the dance reaches its conclusion, for a moment there are two dancers, and one of them is male, although dressed identically. As the dance finishes, it is the male version we see, dangly bits still oscillating with the rhythm.

This is evidently "Phoney Salome" from the titles, played by Dougie Howes. The film is full of difficult allegory and I have no idea what this substitution is meant to portray.
