Sun Taam (2007, Hong Kong)

The man and his other personas in daylight
Bun is a middle-aged man; he used to be a detective but he was thrown out of the force, and his wife has left him. He has a unique gift of seeing other people who are not present, and of seeing their inner intentions. This gift is driving him mad, however, forcing him to act in a way that makes everyone else think he is crazy.

Detective Ho is assigned to a difficult case, and persuades Bun to help him. When Ho directs Bun to a suspect, we see only one person. When Bun sees the suspect he can see seven distinct personalities. One of them is a gun toting thug; a second personallity is a gambler; a third is Greed, a coward who covets food and money. The six male personalities are controlled by a single cold hearted woman.

When the detctives track down the suspect, he pulls his gun and wants to shoot Bun. From Bun's viewpoint we see the thug holding the gun with the other six personalities trying to restrain him from pulling the trigger.

The final show-down is quite interesting with a lot of people pointing guns at one another, and not all of the people are really there. The surreal aspect of the film makes it a little difficult, but it's an interesting twist on the Hong Kong cops and robbers genre.

The film was also released as Mad Detective.
