Sayew (2003, Thailand)

Mai (left) after the raid
Tao is a rather unhappy, sexually repressed Thai girl, working hard at college. The head of studies tells her that her work doesn't have a good enough literary merit.

Meanwhile, to make some extra money, she writes porn stories for a girlie magazine. But the boss is continually complaining that her stories aren't sexy enough. She explores various ways of getting ideas -- including going to a porn cinema and hiding in a vacant flat that is used for casual sex, so as to spy on the people who use it. The porn magazine is raided by the police, and that source of income disappears, but eventually Tao finds her true literary self and lives happily ever after -- or is it just a dream?

One of the workers in the porn magazine offices is a camp gay man. He is introduced at the beginning of the film as "Mai, our stylist; she has a pimply back but thinks she's a star"; when they meet after it has been closed down, he is in female mode. Mai is played by Jakpong Siririn.
