The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982)

Sir Percy as an old woman A lavish made-for-television version of the French Revolution classic; Anthony Andrews plays a suave version of Sir Percy, the foppish playboy who secretly rescues French aristocrats from the guillotine. The difference in the budgets between this version and the 1934 one is obvious, with sumptuous costumes and sets. There is a lot more romantic interest material in addition, and the film is quite long at well over two hours.


Two fragile soldiers make good their escape While helping some escapees, it is necessary to pass revolutionary checkpoints, and Sir Percy does so at one stage dressed as an old hag driving a rustic horse and cart. Later we see that a couple of the female aristocrats have been disguised as French soldiers.
