Schatten der Engel (1975, Germany)

The drag cabaret
Screenplay by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, based on his theatrical play "Der Müll, die Stadt und der Tod".

The plot follows the life of the prostitute Lili Brest, played by Ingrid Caven. She is just too elegant to attract ordinary customers; when she finds a customer who wants to talk, and for her to listen, her life is changed, and she becomes his regular listener, as opposed to lover. And it seems to work with other clients too. He is a rich but corrupt Jewish businessman ... and the potentially anti-semitic overtones as well as the moral degeneration portrayed in the film, caused a bit of a stink when the film was released.

Lili Brest's father works as a cabaret performer drag queen and has a significant role in the film. I found it very similar to some of Warhol's work, with a focus on low life and not much pace to the plot.

The film is sometimes quoted as being Swiss because of Condor Film's involvement in the production.
