The BBC ran a series of four stories under the heading "Fairy Tales", and each was a modern drama based loosely on a traditional story.
In Rapunzel, Lee Ingleby plays Jimmy, a weak Balkan tennis player. His father, desperate for him to win a championship, realises that if he plays as a girl, he stands a better chance.
This plan goes ahead, and Jimmy gets to play in a British championship series, where he meets -- and falls in love with -- the beautiful Rapunzel.
The whole thing is done with delicious British understated humour, and Ingleby looks quite convincing as a weedy man pretending to be a woman.
