Red Firecracker, Green Firecracker (1993)

The new factory owner
A childless widow manages late husband's factory and is referred to as Master by everyone. She dresses in male clothing. One day an itinerant painter is engaged in the factory and a romantic interest develops to the dismay of the traditionalists in the family.

The film is rather slow to develop but gives an interesting view of Chinese life of the 19th century.

China/Hong Kong film in Mandarin; the Chinese title is Pao Da Shuang Deng.

HF July 2001
