Quanto dura o amor (2009, Brazil)

Maria Clara Spinelli as Suzana
A fairly unusual phenomenon is that a transwoman actress, Maria Clara Spinelli, plays a transwoman character, the lawyer Suzana; and there is no agony of identity or the unfairness of society. The title means "How long will love last" and the trailer sequence includes the strapline "How long will secrets last?"

The blurb says: Three people sharing an apartment complex in fast-paced São Paulo look for love in unlikely places in award-winning director Robert Moreira's film "Paulista" [the alternate title of the film]. Aspiring actress Marina shares an apartment with conservative lawyer Suzana a few floors below Jay, an uninspired author smitten with a prostitute.

At a nightclub, Marina meets Justine, an alluring rocker with a fondness for covering Radiohead songs, and the two embark on a tumultuous relationship. Suzana meanwhile starts a relationship with fellow attorney Gil, who seems unaware of her past. The three Paulistas [i.e. people born in São Paulo] charge headlong into newfound romances, hoping that past mistakes won't arise to interfere with newfound happiness.

The film has the alternate title Paulista.
