Quase Dois Irmãos (2004, Brazil)

Interesting, but depressing, study of race and class in Brazil, following two boyhood friends (one privileged white, one favela black) through stints as political prisoners in the 1970's to their present day leadership positions in their respective worlds. The transgender content is that in one brief scene, two male prison inmates strut sexily for others in short shorts and padded bare-midriff tops. Also, there are some fleeting glimpses of costumed Carnaval revellers, some ambiguously gendered and possibly cross-dressing.

The film is also known as Almost Brothers (English title).
