Pope Joan (1972, UK)

A film that explores the fable that an Englishwoman was crowned pope in the 9th century. She had been wandering alone, disguised as a monk for safety, and got promoted rapidly.

It's a terrible film, giving no life, nor feeling of the period, to the story. In the picture Joan has just been crowned pope. But they find her out in the end and she suffers for it.

The film was also released as The Devil's Imposter.
