Le pacte des loups (2001, France)

A terrifying wolf creature is rampaging around 18th century France. A team is sent by the King to sort things out, which they do with strange martial arts techniques. The film seems to fall between the stools of being historical costume drama and smash-'em-up violence.

At the beginning of the film, our heroes are travelling to the remote village blighted by the problem, and come across a group of men dressed as peasant women, attacking an old man and his daughter. Apparently they are dressed as women because they believe that the wolf will only attack men.

The English title is Brotherhood of the Wolf.
