The Onion Field (1979)

A careful study of the degeneration of a small-time crook; he joins up with a schemer, and they both panic when police stop them for a minor traffic offence. Things quickly get out of hand and they murder the policemen in a remote onion field.

A little way into the film there is a police station scene where a screaming drag queen is brought in. In the credits at the end of the film, it is Rene LeVant (known to the Internet Movie Database under various permutations of spelling).
