Old Mother Riley's New Venture (1949, UK)

Old Mother Riley in the kitchen The format for this film returns to a plot involving gangsters, whom Mother Riley helps unmask. But the start of the film consists of her going berserk in the kitchen of an expensive hotel where she works as a dishwasher. There has been a long spate of thefts from the hotel, and inexplicably the proprietor asks her to be an undercover observer to try to find the culprit.

The series of Mother Riley films portray Arthur Lucan as Old Mother Riley and his real-life wife, Kitty McShane as his daughter. The acting is appalling and the whole thing is an embarrassment.

The film was re-released in the USA as A Wild Irish Night.
