As the years rolled by, Arthur Lucan and Kitty McShane continued to produce films based on the old format of a cantankerous and ugly old woman, Old Mother Riley played by Lucan, and her daughter, Kitty, played by McShane. The films were merely frameworks for Lucan's eccentric portrayal of an old crone, and by 1945 they were evidently running out of variations on the theme. Once again a posh man is wooing Kitty, now 47 years old and looking it. Lucan's antagonistic antics are just plain embarrassing, and the whole film is awful.
The opening sequence of Riley conning the innocent with the three-card trick just about sets the scene for all of the series of films, crude and obvious deception.
