Old Mother Riley MP (1939, UK)

At the hustings
Arthur Lucan and Kitty McShane enjoyed immense popularity with their music hall act, in which Lucan played Old Mother Riley, a crotchety and eccentric old woman. Kitty McShane, Lucan's wife, played her daughter.

After a successful debut in films, the pair went on to make a series of feature films. There was never much of a plot, and the action consisted really of a sequence of situations enabling Lucan to project the persona he had created.

In this film, after Mother Riley is sacked from the laundry where she works, she runs as a member of parliament when she hears that a developer is planning to demolish the houses in her street.
