Oh, Susanna! (1936)

A drag act Gene Autrey starred in a series of Western films, and his singing skills were always brought to the fore. A murderer has escaped from prison and overpowers Autrey on a train. He changes clothes with him and throws him off the train. Autrey is picked up by a theatrical touring group, but he is arrested because he has been identified as the presumed murderer, from the clothing. Thrown into jail, he is rescued by his friends and must clear himself from the charges.

In an outdoor entertainment staged by the touring group, Smiley Burnette plays one of the troupe who performs a comedy vocal routine as a woman.
