Our Miss Fred (1972)

On stage Danny la Rue is a soldier in wartime France. As a drag artiste he naturally tops the bill at the soldiers' entertainment.

With the German officer But Germans overrun the camp while he is dressed for a theatrical entertainment, and he goes undercover as a real woman.

He gets a lift from a German General who doesn't see through the disguise.

With the schoolmistresses

He meets up with two English schoolmistresses who are trying to escape from the Germans too, with a party of schoolgirls. La Rue's character doesn't reveal his gender to them, enabling all sorts of camp jokes.

Danny La Rue had been a first class drag entertainer on the Variety stage, but this film didn't do much to enhance his image; his acting skills didn't transition well to the film storyline format, and also the script was pretty basic.

The film was released in the USA as Operation Fred, and in Canada as Beyond the Call of Duty.
