National Velvet (1944)

Taylor is going to impersonate a boy
I think it's a pity that such a simple and innocent way of life has so long vanished. The young Elizabeth Taylor and Mickey Rooney star in a horsey film (based on what was once a classic of children's literature).

Elizabeth Taylor's character has to ride in a race but in those days only male jockeys were allowed; Rooney cuts her hair, all that is necessary apparently to complete a transformation.
