Männer wie wir (2004, Germany)

This is an excellent, laugh-out-loud comedy about a young gay man who is outed at home; he sets up a gay football team to beat his former home team. His name is Ecki and he played in the local league in a very small town. When he gets outed and abused, he swears that he will come back in four weeks with a team of gay man, and win. When his baker father is hostile, he leaves home and goes to Dortmund, where his sister lives. She is supportive and together they find out where the gay clubs are -- Ecki is very naive and has no idea how to go about this. He gets together enough support and there is a trial. Various no-hopers turn up, inlcuding this one, Victoria.

 Ecki's friends don't seem impressed.

She takes a shot but she misses the ball altogether.

But as she falls in a heap, her shoe goes into the target. Result! (It must have taken them ages to get that right.)

While the film is entirely about the gay theme, there is no explicit sex in it and you could comfortably allow your great aunt to watch it. Of course the ending of the film is entirley predictable, and yes, all the gay characters are stereotypes, if not caricatures, but I thought it was really funny and great entertainment. The transgender character only appears for a few seconds.

An English language version has been released under the title Guys and Balls.
