Made In Heaven (1987)

Debra Winger plays Emmett, a male guardian angel. In fact the credits at the end of the film say "Emmett as himself".

A young man dies and goes to heaven, and falls in love with a girl who was born there. Didn't know that it worked that way, didya?

She returns to earth and he has to find her there; a neat reinvention of an old theme.

Emmett has a major role in the film, but there is no transgender overtone.
