The Last Samurai (2003)

Tom Cruise's character goes to nineteenth century Japan to train the Japanese army in modern warfare; in the course of this ho grwos to admire the Japanese way of life and to some extent goes native.

While in a mountain village, there is a Kyogen theatrical performance taking place, with a female character played by a man; the brief portrayal shown here is said to be authentic.
