The L-Shaped Room (1962, UK)
A ground-breaking post-war British film in which issues were explored that were difficult at that time -- unmarried pregnancy is central to the plot. Cicely Courtneidge plays Mavis, and at a Christmas party she is persuaded to reprise her Sergeant-Major song and dance act, but it turns out she has forgotten most of the words. Cicely Courtneidge had performed this role as an act on the music hall stage throughout her career.
