A Little Bit of Lippy (1992, UK)

We're being ladies A film about a married man living in the north of England, who is a secret crossdresser. At the beginning of the film, to prepare us for the theme, we see two young boys who have dressed up as girls; "We're being ladies". They get jeered at by some others.

Dressing up at home However the main plot concerns Rick Fairley (Danny Cunningham). His wife discovers bits of feminine clothing stashed away, and there are fevered discussions about him. His wife surprises him while he is dressing up in the bedroom, in a more fetishy than transgender manner. This does not go down well.

Mr Cartwright wearing the wedding dress Later we see him at a friendly dressmaker's house; another customer is there trying on -- or rather enjoying the feel of wearing -- a wedding dress. Dressmaker: "Well; what do you think Mr Cartwright?".

This is a nice gentle story with real characters and real-world events befalling them. A greatly underestimated film.
