In World War 2, an all-girl swing band was performing in England; but the drummer was a man in drag. Fifty years on, one of the girls decides to try to re-form the band for a one night stand, following a chance meeting with the drummer. The plot revolves around the difficulties of getting everyone rounded up, and numerous flashbacks to the amorous adventures of the band in wartime.

The drummer (Patrick, played by Ian Holm, and Grant Ibbs in his WW2 persona) was a bit of a ladies' man and a bit of a conman too. Elizabeth is the organising spirit, played by Judi Dench in the present day and Romola Garai in WW2.

There are some interesting sub-plots, and the film has many resonances of Hunting Venus, although the plot is nothing like as convincing. A fun film, all the same.
