A gritty and violent film of Hubert Selby's book about life in Brooklyn. The main characters, whose daily problems are followed, include two transvestites; this is Regina, played by Zette, who becomes the lover of a gay trade union official.
This is Georgette, played by Alexis Arquette, having a bad drugs trip. The apparatus of drug taking was a bit clunkier in those days.
The film gave the censors of the day serious trouble, in that it was very "progressive" for its time. But it's difficult to look at it today and find much of any quality in it. There's a lot of swearing for no good reason, and the treatment of the gay man and the two transvestites (who really just appear as very effeminate gay men) isn't very enlightening.
No shock horror expose film is complete without an orgy; this one has two extra transvestites, here is Camille, played by Julian Alexon.
And this is Goldie (Robi Martin). Posing, or what?
