An interesting French comedy. The main character is Vincent (played by Séverin Blanchet). He is a minor minister in the French government. He doesn't pay much attention to his duties, and sooner or later there is a demonstration against the government and he is forced to resign.
He suddenly takes on a new lease of life, meeting up with old drinking friends, many of them of dubious charcater. He continues to suffer at life's hands, but he wins through somehow. Later in the film we see that his successor in the ministry has lost his job too -- evidently there is a repetitiveness about it all.
It's interesting as events seem to rule Vincent's life and take precedence over an actual plot; some of the comedy reminded me of Jacques Tati's work. However the slow pace of events and the length of the film at 115 minutes may not hold the attention.
Michel Piccoli plays Marie, Blanchet's mother.
