Jailbirds (1940, UK)

Dressed as women they can escape Bill Smith (Albert Burdon), Spike Nelson (Charles Farrell) and Nick (Charles Hawtrey) are in prison and they are pals. The prison governor organises a variety show, and Bill Smith and Nick perform in female costumes borrowed from the artistes. The governor, apparently not realising that the men are his prisoners, invites them to a meal outside the prison, which they accept, but then they leave after an argument with the restaurant owner. Now free, they revert to male clothing and revert to their life of crime.
