I Thank You (1941, UK)

Applying for a position
A comedy with Arthur Askey, Richard Murdoch and other British stalwarts of the period. Askey and his friends are out-of-work entertainers and their agent can't find them work. When they hear that the wealthy lady who was going to finance a production is an old music hall artiste with a heart of gold, they decide to go directly to her and ask for work.

But they aren't allowed in to see her; dejected, they suddenly realise that unemployed household staff are being interviewed for positions at the house; so Murdoch and Askey apply, with Askey in the role of female cook.

In the kitchen
Surprisingly enough they get the jobs, and Askey spends much of the rest of the film in the standard cook's uniform of the period.
