A film adapted from a stage play, written in the 1930's, in which a "modern" emancipated young woman leaves Berlin and escapes to the countryside near Munich to avoid a marriage to a stuffy man selected by her father. Her car has the number plate starting with IA, for Berlin, and seeing such a thing was a rarity in Bavaria. Incidentally it is the letters I and A, not the numeral 1.
Gunther Philipp plays a strange comedy detective who follows the girl, adopting various instant disguises which he conveniently has in a van he drives. Late in the film, he pretends to be a middle-aged woman from the village.
