A drama story set in a Hong Kong school. After one of the students committed suicide last year, this term is going to be difficult. Mrs Lau is a disciplinarian, and Mr Au has been taken back after resigning from the school. He is given class 5E, a difficult and lazy class. When Mrs Lau is roughed up and a plastic bin-liner put over her head, she wants someone in Mr Au's class expelled.
But a young male ballet dancer, Mr Ng arrives on the scene, and he will teach the class dance; this is just the thing to motivate them and pull them together.
There is a disturbingly tomboyish girl, Rachel, (Gan Kaixin)in the class. They are also studying Romeo and Juliet, and one of the boys, Alex and she are reading the principal parts; when it comes to a kiss, he hesitates, and she says, "I'm a real woman now; don't think of me as a tomboy; kiss me." The character of Rachel, referred to as "(Tomboy) Rachel" in Chinese texts, seems to be included just to add to the mix of unconventional and fifficult characters, and is not developed into a main theme of the plot.
The film was also released as La jiao jiao shi.
