A rather frenetic art film, involving a photographer who takes pity on a woman and tries to get her a leading role as an actress. But the emphasis is on the seamy side of life, and the film does not offer a pleasurable viewing experience.
The photographer's work seems to involve a lot of the less attractive side of life; early on he has to take photographs of this person ... someone says, "He is English!", by way of explanation. I suppose the fishnets, the wig and the makeup just about qualify as cross-dressing.
Later on, our hero encounters this man, who is a theatrical producer: Karl-Heinz Zimmer.
And just to even up the balance, a later client is a probable female-to-male transsexual woman, who wants to be photographed using a strap-on, making love to a young girlfriend.
The film has two English titles, The Main Thing Is to Love, and That Most Important Thing: Love.
