In and Out (1996)

Dad asks about his future
It is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure that this film pulled it off, and the end part of the film is hardly credible.

A college teacher, Howard Brackett (Kevin Kline), is outed on national television as gay. At first he denies it and persists despite the sniggers and comments of his friends; later he comes out himself (although we never find out for certain whether this is true or just done to kill the controversy).

About an hour into the film after he has come out, his father asks him: "Are you going to have an operation?"

Howard: "What?"

Father: "Well, are you going into show business?"
