Impromptu (1991, UK)

George Sands
An excellently staged film covering a period in the life of the composer Chopin, when he was pursued romantically by the female writer George Sands (played by Judy Davis). Everything about the film is right for setting the scene in the period.

George Sands affected male dress most of the time, and would presumably have been a female-to-male transsexual nowadays, but oriented to men sexually.

Sands and her children arrive
When Sands and her two children arrive at a country house, they are greeted by the hostess who refers to her two boys. One of them (far right) is actually a girl, evidently dressed following her mother's example. The laurel wreath on Sands' head was put there as a greeting by the hostess.

The hostess gushes, "Oh, and you've brought your two boys!"

Daughter, removing hat and shaking hair out, "I'm a girl!"

Recommended.
