A fascinating, very early film. A man reads that there is to be a beauty competition, and the prize is £100. What more natural than to go to a theatrical costumiers and hire a female outfit and enter.
We now see the actual competition, which seems very cursory, and our hero wins and gets the prize in cash -- coins in a bag. As Percy and the other competitors leave, Percy slips and his bonnet and wig are displaced. The rest of the film involves a very long chase with the others and the judges after him. The other competitors don't seem to be very beautiful. Eventually Percy uses a ladder to climb over a very high wall and he pulls it up after him, triumphantly still clutching the money. Great stuff.
