Hua Mu Lan (1963, Hong Kong)
Ivy Lin Po plays Mu Lan, a famous Chinese heroine who dressed in soldierly armour and helped to defend her nation in war, when her father is too ill to do so himself. But she falls in love with General Li (played by her real-life husband, Han Chin), but she dare not reveal her true gender or her feelings, and poignantly she ends up being offered the hand of the general's daughter's in marriage.
The drama is played as an opera, with luxurious music and settings.
