Go For Broke (2001)

Romie and Jackie in court
An anonymous commentator described this film as "Some Like It Hot meets Stir Crazy" and that's pretty accurate. In a story made purely for laughs, two men are in a restaurant; on the television the lottery result is announced; they have won a fortune. Two shadey characters make a note of this and decide to get the ticket from them, but before they can do so, a deranged woman holds up the entire restaurant at gunpoint and takes everyone's valuables. She also takes the lottery ticket, without realising what it is, and swallows it. But the police arrive and she is arrested.

Our two heroes decide the only way to get their fortune back is to get imprisoned on a minor charge to get access to the woman. Of course, they need to get sent to the woman's prison, so they drag up and commit a minor, non-violent street robbery. Unfortunately the old lady whom they rob drops dead on the spot, and they go to jail for a long time. In the picture they are in court, Romie, played by Michael A Goorjian is on the left, and Jackie, played by Pras Michel.

At the prison they are just about to get strip searched, when the governor of the prison notices that Romie is the double of his dead wife, whom he still mourns. He decides to give Romie special privileges in return for, the governor hopes, reviving the memory of his wife. Romie manages to get Jackie excused the search too.

So far so good; a reasonable, although pretty unbelievable, setup for the ensuing plot. However the script runs out of steam at this point, and you suddenly notice how uneven the soundtrack is, and how there isn't any proper accompanying music.

Never a first-rate film, it is reasonably funny.
