Nick Nolte plays an aging, and declining, bigtime thief, who plans a big theft in Monte Carlo. With considerable plot complexity, the film holds your attention to the last; it's one of the better cops and robbers films I have seen for some time. Inevitably in this genre the whole thing is a little implausible, but I found it good entertainment, avoiding some of the customary cliches of this kind of film.
When Nolte's character is assembling some helpers to pull off the big one, he goes to call on Philipe at the gym. But, reminding us of Hunting Venus, Philipe has transitioned and is now Philippa. Just as Philipe was an obsessive body-builder, so is the new Philippa, and when some of the gang comment that Philippa is not very convincing in her female role, it seems an accurate observation.
In the credits, Philippa is played by Sarah Bridges, born female bodybuilder, not otherwise appearing in films. The film is written and directed by Neil Jordan, of the Crying Game.
